These are reefer straight trucks built with wooden floors. This kind of design is meant to increase airflow in the truck. So, in addition to regulated temperatures, such trucks are used for the transportation of goods that require extra aeration.
Metallic Floors
While the wooden floor reefer straight trucks are a bit traditional and used for specific goods, those fitted with metallic floors are used for transportation of goods that don’t require a lot of aeration. They are meant to preserve cold, and as such help to save fuel costs.

Don't just take our word, hear what COOP customers have to say about our platform.
“The supply of short-term rental trucks was almost impossible. COOP was able to help by connecting us to equipment Owners that weren’t utilizing their fleets.”
“I like the convenience of being able to pick up the vehicles when I need them, check them out on the app, take pictures, and get on the road.”
Ice Cream Vending
Small ice-cream vendors have been using reefer trucks for the longest time. Using reefer straight trucks for ice cream businesses not only cuts down operation costs but also helps to market and gives a business flexibility that they don’t get using commercial stalls. If the business isn’t doing well in one area, you can tap into another market for improvements.
General Freight
Reefer straight trucks are also used for dry freight hauling. Just because they have refrigeration systems does not mean that they cannot be used for dry freight transportation. When the system turns off, they can be used the same way as standard straight trucks, for the transportation of dry freight.
Frozen Foods and Temperature Sensitive Goods
Frozen foods need to stay frozen, even during transportation. To keep them that way, reefer straight trucks are used. Also, some goods are highly sensitive to heat. Such goods include select beauty products, fine art and antique tobacco products, etc. This type of cargo requires specific temperature control during transportation. Fine art and antiques, as well as some tobacco products are highly valuable, while some beauty products are only effective if kept under certain temperatures.
Medical Applications
Reefer straight trucks are also highly depended on for different medical applications. To prevent clotting and to stay useful, blood and organ donations are usually transported using reefer straight trucks. In addition, manufacturers use the same trucks to transport medicines and other equipment to hospitals.
Short Hauls
Reefer straight trucks can also be used for short hauls for goods that don’t necessarily require temperature control. If a business mostly deals with the transportation of perishable and other goods that need temperature control, there is no need for acquiring an extra truck for short hauls. The same reefer trucks used can be used to run such errands and in turn, reduce expenses.
