Semi Truck
A semi-truck tractor can either be conventional or cab over engine. The semi-trailer compartment includes a sleeper area. The semi-trailer is the compartment where the load is placed and could be a box van, flatbed, tanker, or dump trailer which means they are versatile enough for different business needs. Most semi-trailers have manual transmissions while others have automated or hydraulic transmissions.
Tandem Axle
Tandem axle tractors are large in size, with two rear axles that have multiple wheels giving them incredible strength and stability. The engine of such tractors sends power to the axles, giving it the ability to haul extremely heavy loads for long distances. The weight is usually distributed between the axles giving the tractor optimum stability and also a smooth drive even on rough terrains. Their large size makes tandem axles to be rigid, in that they can’t fit well in narrow driveways.
Single Axle
Single axle tractors only have one axle making them smaller in size and power compared to tandem axle ones. They are suitable for deliveries in urban areas and in residential neighborhoods. They perfectly carry medium-duty size and can haul cargo of up to 65,000 pounds. Their lightweight features give them a great mileage, making them perfect for long-distance freights since they have a sleeper cab. Also, this gives the driver ease in control and can turn in tight driveways due to their 20-30 degrees.
International
The brand produces reliable tractors with high torque and horsepower to do the heavy hauling. The driver’s comfort is optimized with maximum driveability and control for those long hauls. International tractors are usually tough and can withstand harsh weather and tight deadlines. An example is the LT series that is are durable and powerful with both sleeper and day cab options.
Peterbilt
The brand manufactures world-class sleeper tractors that have aerodynamic features which optimize fuel economy. Peterbilt produces both heavy and medium-duty sleeper tractors. The model 579 has a hood and bumper designed to save on fuel and also improves ground clearance. The powertrain is more efficient with a 12-speed transmission powered to the tandem axle. The sleeper berth is 8 feet tall with a spacious closet and office area.
Volvo
The Volvo brand offers highly dependable tractors such as the Volvo FH which is perfect for long hours of heavy duty hauling. It maximizes uptime and fuel efficiency and also has incredible interior features such as a fully-equipped sleeper cab and dynamic steering. The dynamic steering makes it stable, reduces straining, and also ensures that the tractor does not skid on the road.
