What is a DOT Number?

A Department of Transportation (DOT) number is a number that the Federal MotorCarrier Safety Administration, or FMCSA assigns to registered commercial vehicles. Companies that operate commercial vehicles which haul cargo, weigh more than a certain amount, or transport passengers in interstate commerce must have a USDOT Number.
